This Double-Crested Cormorant was found in Miami Beach with fish weights hanging from his beak. X-rays revealed two fish hooks lodged in his stomach, along with another piercing his wing. Without intervention, his chances of survival would have been slim. Our rehabbers are now feeding him “cotton fish” (fish stuffed with cotton), hoping the cotton will latch onto the hooks so he can regurgitate them safely. If this doesn’t work, surgery will be his only option. ❤️‍🩹 A heartfelt thanks to the kind person who spotted him and called for help, allowing our Operation Rescue and Release Team to step in. 💪 ‼️This rescue serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact improperly used or discarded fishing gear can have on wildlife. Please fish responsibly and dispose of gear properly to protect our shared environment.‼️ Stay tuned for updates on this patient! 🌊 On our last team-building adventure at Oleta Park, we collected far too many discarded fishing lines. 🎣 These seemingly harmless tangles pose serious dangers to pelicans and other birds. Attracted by bait, they often get hooked or entangled—injuring their wings, pouch, or worse, swallowing the hook. 💔 ⚠️ Always dispose of fishing lines responsibly. Wildlife depends on it.
